The most accurate images are obtained with the paralleling technique and a long cone, where the film and object planes are parallel and the X-ray beam is perpendicular to both. However, within the surgical field, maintaining this geometry is difficult since the depth gauge remains free, making perfect parallelism often unachievable and potentially leading to measurement inaccuracies.
